October 14: Teddy named Players' Champion; Boyd's Roo debut

On this day, Darius Boyd is named in his first Kangaroos side, the Rabbitohs make a smart signing in Damien Cook and James Tedesco is named the Players' Champion.

1991

The NSWRL opt not to admit new teams into the first-grade competition for 1993, following player depth and financial concerns at a number of clubs.

2007

Australia storm to their biggest win in 100 years of battling New Zealand, scoring 11 tries in a 58-0 victory. Kiwi centre Steve Matai is sent off for a high tackle on Australia's Mark Gasnier. Winger Israel Folau, who becomes Australia's youngest Test player at 18 years and 194 days, scores two tries on debut.

2008

Brisbane centre Justin Hodges is ruled out of the World Cup with a shoulder injury and St George Illawarra’s Matt Cooper is also unavailable because of groin surgery. Officials rule out Penrith’s Michael Jennings, who was already preparing to play for Tonga. Manly fullback Brett Stewart is ruled out two days later with a shoulder injury. Australian selectors name Broncos pair Darius Boyd and Karmichael Hunt as the replacements. It is Boyd's first Kangaroos jersey.

2015

South Sydney confirm the signing of Canterbury's stand-in hooker Damien Cook to a two-year deal, which is later extended. It turns out to be one of the Rabbitohs best buys, as three years later he earns a NSW Blues and then Test No.9 jerseys.

2016

Test coach Mal Meninga chooses Cronulla's Valentine Holmes, Canberra's Shannon Boyd and St George Illawarra's Tyson Frizell to make their Test debuts in the historic clash against New Zealand at Perth's nib Stadium.

2019       

Sydney Roosters fullback James Tedesco is named the Players Champion at the Rugby League Players' Association awards in Sydney. The honour caps a remarkable season for the Test star, who also won the Jack Gibson Medal as the Roosters’ player of the year, the Wally Lewis Medal and the Brad Fittler Medal. Jess Sergis was crowned the Players' Champion in the NRLW.

2020

Olympic gold medallist Charlotte Caslick is ruled out of the Roosters’ final NRLW matches after suffering two small fractures in her lumbar spine in her team’s 22-12 defeat of the Warriors.
