Great Britain cause the upset of the year and beat Australia 19-12 at Wembley. The crowd of 52,274 was a record for a Test in England. Martin Offiah scored a try for the Lions.
1994
Brisbane Broncos chairman Paul Morgan attacks the ARL and predicts that a "premier league" would be established in the "near to medium future". The Super League - in opposition to the ARL - was contested in 1997.
1999
The last surviving member of the 1929-30 Kangaroos, Harry "Mick" Kadwell dies in Sydney at the age of 96. Kadwell played for South Sydney and St George between 1927 ad 1934.
2006
All Blacks great Jonah Lomu turns down an offer to join the Gold Coast Titans.
2016
The game's international body announces that the 2021 World Cup will be staged in England and recommends that the United States host the event in 2025.
2017
The Kangaroos open their World Cup campaign with an 18-4 defeat of England at AAMI Park. Both sides suffer injury blows, with Jake Trbojevic (pectoral muscle) and Sam Burgess (medial ligament) failing to finish the match.
