On this day, the Kangaroos thump Great Britain to win the Ashes, Jarryd Hayne named best player in the world and the Sea Eagles show Des Hasler the door.

The Kangaroos waltz away with the Ashes after a thumping 50-12 victory over Great Britain in the second Test at Swinton. Australia score 12 tries, with lock Johnny Raper involved in nine of them. The Kangaroos become the first all-Australian team to win the Ashes on British soil.

Canterbury chief executive Peter Moore canvasses a radical proposal to stretch the six-tackle rule to eight tackles.

New Zealand Test stars Stephen Kearney and Jason Donnelly are injured in a freak accident in France in which a hotel balcony rail gives way.
1994
ARL chairman Ken Arthurson arrives back in Australia from England to hold urgent talks over the proposed Super League with executives of News Limited. Winfield Cup clubs receive a document from the ARL seeking a five-year commitment to the head body. Australia down Warrington 24-0 at Wilderspool Stadium.

The Federal Court hears that star players and News Limited executives travelled under false names while setting up Super League in March.
1997
Balmain threaten to sue lock Glenn Morrison after he allegedly walked out on the club mid-contract.
2000
North Queensland suffer a major setback when fullback Tim Brasher damages a cruciate ligament after falling from a stepladder.
2002
New Zealand claim first Test honours over Great Britain, 30-18 at Blackburn.
2003
Bulldogs captain Steve Price takes the unusual step of sending the NRL a proposal containing four suggested rule changes, including greater powers for the video referee in dealing with foul play.
2003
Kangaroo centre Phil Bailey is ruled out for the rest of the tour with a fractured eye socket after being accidentally hit by teammate Michael Crocker in the final tackle of the first Test.
2004
Veteran forward Luke Ricketson is named captain of the Sydney Roosters for 2005.
2005
Media personality Andrew Denton reignites his feud with South Sydney icon George Piggins by accusing the former Rabbitoh hooker of “driving the club into the wall”. In a stunning attack, Denton says that Piggins was the “single biggest obstacle between South Sydney and viability”.
Piggins responds, saying: “If you grabbed [Denton] by the neck he would squeal like the weevil that he is”. South Sydney Football Club issues a press release distancing itself from the sniping between Denton and Piggins.
2008
Australia continue their march through the World Cup with a 46-6 demolition of Papua New Guinea in Townsville. The win is marred by an eye injury to newcomer Terry Campese, who is forced from the field after only 16 minutes following a tackle by former Canberra teammate Neville Costigan.
2009
Jarryd Hayne is named IRLF player of the year at a presentation dinner in Leeds. Hayne (fullback), Ryan Hall (winger), Greg Inglis (centre), Benji Marshall (five-eighth), Johnathan Thurston (halfback), Fuifui Moimoi (prop), Cameron Smith (hooker), Gareth Ellis (second row) and Kevin Sinfield (lock) were named in the team of the year. Australian whistle-blower Shayne Hayne was named referee of the year.
2010
Canberra centre Joel Monaghan quits the club at an emotional media conference following his Mad Monday photo furore. The former Test star says he will pursue a position in the English Super League.
2011
Less than a month after steering Manly to their grand final win, coach Des Hasler is sensationally stood down after a seven-hour meeting of the club’s board due to “serious breaches of contract”. Manly greats including Ken Arthurson and Max Krilich are fiercely critical of Hasler in comments to the media.
2013
Australia score nine tries to cruise to a 50-0 victory over Ireland in Limerick.
2014
Australia confirm their place in the Four Nations final with a dominant 44-18 victory over Samoa in an historic Test at Wollongong’s WIN Stadium. Fullback Greg Inglis overtakes Bob Fulton’s Test try tally of 25 to sit behind only Darren Lockyer, Ken Irvine and Reg Gasnier.
2017
Cronulla announce the signing of former Penrith captain Matt Moylan to a four-year deal. The deal for Moylan to join the Sharks in a swap-arrangement with James Maloney was brokered by Panthers general manager Phil Gould and Sharks coach Shane Flanagan.
2018
Manly strike an agreement with Trent Barrett that will result in the club continuing to pay Barrett until his contract expires in June if he stays away from their Narrabeen headquarters.
