Brisbane Broncos board member Darren Lockyer has confirmed the club will sign Melbourne Storm halfback Brodie Croft to a three-year deal.
Croft, who has played 39 matches for the Storm including 22 in last year's minor premiership-winning season, is set to be released from his Melbourne contract in order to join Brisbane.
"It's been talked about for a little while now. It's signed, sealed and delivered – Brodie is coming for three years and I think he's going to be a great addition to the squad," Lockyer told Nine News.
Croft lost his halfback spot at Melbourne to Jahrome Hughes three weeks before the finals series, while Brisbane have been on the hunt for a specialist halfback after playing makeshift halves pairing Darius Boyd and Jake Turpin for the second half of the season.
The news means Broncos youngster Tom Dearden is likely to bide his time as a back-up having made five NRL appearances in 2019 before his season was cut short by injury.
"We've got big [plans] for Tom Dearden. He's only 18, he's still learning," Lockyer said. "He'll be part of the mix as well, and he's another option. But he's a good kid with a great attitude and he'll be around the place."
The Broncos are yet to make an official announcement regarding Croft's signing.
Meanwhile former Storm half and Titans five-eighth Ryley Jacks could be on his way back to Melbourne after trialing with the club as a potential replacement for Croft.
