On this day, the Kangaroos lose to France and Dragons legend George Evans dies.

A Kangaroo team featuring Johnny Raper at five-eighth and the all-Test front row of Dud Beattie, Noel Kelly and Gary Parcell, lose the first match on the French leg of their tour when defeated 19-10 by Albi.

A Christmas Day match at Albi had developed into a tradition for the Kangaroos, who played in the small southern town on four successive tours.

Four-time St George grand final winner George Evans dies in Sydney aged 74.
