1998   

Former Canterbury premiership-winning coach Ted Glossop dies in Sydney after a long battle with cancer.

2005   

Kiwis legend Stacey Jones is awarded a New Zealand Order of Merit medal for services to rugby league.

2011   

England international Martin Gleeson is suspended for three years for taking the stimulant methylexaneamine during a Super League game between Hull and Salford on May 13. In a landmark ruling, two club officials are also suspended for attempting to cover up Gleeson’s positive test. Half of Gleeson’s ban is suspended.
