Sharks chairman Dino Mezzatesta said the changes in the club's front office this week would not slow plans Cronulla is putting in place for 2020 and beyond.
With the news on Tuesday that CEO Richard Munro would be leaving "effective immediately" some wondered if the proposed general meeting of Cronulla-Sutherland Leagues Club members set down for January 23 will go ahead.
It was Munro's signature at the bottom of a letter sent out to all members advising them of a special general meeting to vote on the proposed amalgamation with nearby Sporties @ Kareela Golf Club.
"It will ensure you, our members, have a home base for the next 18 months," Munro said in the letter.
The current leagues club and other facilities at PointsBet Stadium are undergoing major renovations forcing the Sharks to play home games elsewhere for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Merging with Kareela means the Cronulla leagues club would continue to operate that facility when the refurbished complex on Captain Cook Drive is re-opened.
"In other words, it's an exciting development which, we believe, will have long-term financial and entertainment benefits for our club," Munro wrote.
But even though his brief nine-month tenure as Sharks group CEO has now ended, Mezzatesta told NRL.com on Wednesday there would be no disruptions to the board's plans.
"Change happens in all organisations. But it's business as usual and we are absolutely going ahead with our Kareela plans," Mezzatesta said. "Everything else is still on track.
"We've got a very good executive team and a good group around them as well.
"So there's no reason why we wouldn't be doing what we already planned to do. It's full steam ahead."
The search for a third CEO within 12 months – Barry Russell resigned last March before Munro was appointed in April – would now begin with the aim of having someone in place by the Sharks first game for 2020 on March 14.
The Sharks are set to play 11 "home" games at Nestrata Jubilee Oval – one of the Dragons' two grounds – with the first against Melbourne in round two.
"We'll take our time in finding a replacement. Given that we've got such a good administration in place already there's no need to rush," Mezzatesta said.
"But of course the idea being that as we enter March, we'll either be very close to appointing someone if we haven't already."
