On this day, James Tedesco is born and a foundation club celebrates its centenary.

1973

Jason Stevens is born. As well as playing 14 Test matches for Australia and four Super League Tests, Stevens represented NSW eight times and played 231 matches (64 for St George and 167 for Cronulla).

1993

Australia, NSW and Sydney Roosters fullback James Tedesco was born on this day in 1993. After making his NRL debut with Wests Tigers in 2012, 'Teddy' went on to play 90 matches for the joint venture before moving to the Roosters in 2018, savouring premiership glory in his first year at the Tricolours.

In a stellar 2019 season, Tedesco won the Dally M Medal, RLPA Players' Champion award, the Brad Fittler Medal and a premiership ring.

He captained NSW to Origin glory in 2021 and led the Roosters to the second week of the finals despite a horror run with injuries and the loss of several senior players to retirement.

He enters the 2022 season with 180 NRL games and 97 tries to his name as well as 16 Origins and four Tests.

2002

Sharks duo David Peachey and Preston Campbell take time out from training to meet Indigenous children from Bowraville, whose holiday to Sydney was in danger of being ruined by the state's bushfire crisis.

2008

Newtown becomes the first club to celebrate 100 years of existence. Between 1908 and their demise from the NSWRL in 1983 they won three premierships and collected seven wooden spoons.

2014

Former Test five-eighth Kevin Walters is re-united with coach Wayne Bennett when he is appointed backs coach of the Newcastle Knights. Bennett sacked Walters when he was in charge of the Broncos in 2005 but Bennett claimed it was a necessary step in Walters' evolution as a coach.

2020

The NRL announces it will dedicate the opening round of the 2020 season to raise funds for those affected by devastating bushfires that killed 20 and caused widespread destruction across NSW and Victoria over several months.
