South Sydney boast the best Fantasy scorer of 2018 and several potential bargains ahead of the 2020 season.
We're previewing the notable NRL Fantasy buys and revealing all player prices for each club as the days tick down towards the start of the new season.
Damien Cook
Hooker, $938,000
A speedster out of dummy-half, Cook was a revelation in 2018 with more than 100 run metres and 40 tackles per game to become Fantasy's No.1 scorer.
Last season he was overtaken by Payne Haas and matched by Cameron Smith and Cameron McInnes but still scored an excellent 62.7 per game.
Cook's running game was diminished a little under Wayne Bennett (79 metres per game) but his playmaking improved with 18 try assists and eight forced dropouts, compared with eight assists and two forced dropouts the previous year.
There's no reason why he can't match those numbers this season.
Liam Knight
Prop, $570,000
A 24-year-old prop heading into his fourth NRL season after having played a handful of games with Manly and Canberra before playing 23 matches for Souths in 2019, Knight could be the big winner from George Burgess's departure.
Knight played the majority of 2019 off the bench – averaging 35 Fantasy points in those games – but he scored 45.4 points a game when given a shot in the starting side.
He's likely to keep a starting spot after the exit of George Burgess and the retirement of big brother Sam, and if his game time increases he's a potential keeper.
Knight scored 50, 57 and 51 when playing more than 50 minutes last season, and will start the year with a break even of 39.
Five key match-ups of the Rabbitohs' 2020 draw
Braidon Burns
Centre, $500,000
Burns surprised some observers by claiming a starting centre spot in Round 1 last season and surprised some more with his form – with a combined 330 metres and 13 tackle breaks in the first two weeks of the season.
In all, he averaged 36 points from nine games, but that includes two injury-affected scores of 8 and 4; remove those scores and Burns' average jumps up to 44, a number that would rank him second among genuine centres behind Latrell Mitchell.
He's been sidelined since August with a hamstring injury but if he can return to his best he looks a cut-price keeper in the tricky centre position.
