Wayne Bennett has had no indication of whether his England coaching tenure is coming to an end amid widespread reports he is about to be replaced by Shaun Wane.

The RFL has announced a media conference for Monday morning (3am Tuesday AEDT) to confirm who will lead England at the 2021 World Cup on home soil, with Wane strongly tipped to take on the role.

Bennett, whose contract expired after Great Britain's disastrous tour of New Zealand and Papua New Guinea last year, is yet to hear from the RFL on his future.

Four straight losses to New Zealand, Tonga and PNG prompted a review of the national team's set-up, which is expected to cost Bennett the coaching position less than two years out from next November's World Cup.

"I have had no indication as of yet," Bennett told NRL.com.

The South Sydney mentor has repeatedly stressed he wants to continue coaching England in the months since the unsuccessful Lions tour.

But with veterans James Graham and Sean O'Laughlin expected to follow Sam Burgess into retirement in the next 12 months, the RFL is believed to be sizing up Wane to lead a new era for England.

Wane has held a part-time coaching role with Scotland's national rugby union side since leaving Wigan at the end of 2018, having won three Super League titles in seven years at the helm of the Warriors.

Castleford coach Daryl Powell and Salford's Ian Watson are also believed to have put their names forward to the RFL in recent months.

England host Australia in three Tests at the end of 2020 while a mid-season international, potentially against France, has also been discussed.
