The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) announced today that Ms Amanda Laing will be stepping down as an independent commissioner of the ARLC.
Ms Laing, a highly experienced media executive, has served on the Commission since March 2018 and will step down on March 11, 2020.
ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys AM thanked Ms Laing for her contribution to the Commission.
“Amanda has been at the forefront of our mission to develop and grow the game of Rugby League at all levels,” Mr V’landys said.
“Her expertise as a media executive brought a unique and valuable perspective to many of the issues which came before the Commission. Amanda understands how media, sponsors and advertisers view the value of their investment in rugby league and brought that insight to our decisions. In addition, she brought business acumen and a great passion for rugby league to her role on the Commission.”
Ms Laing said that she decided to step down in order to ensure there could be no perception of a conflict of interest associated with any decision of the ARLC regarding its broadcast rights in relation to her role with Foxtel. Ms Laing is currently the Chief Commercial Officer at Foxtel, a position she has held since April 2018.
“It has been a great privilege to serve on the Commission and to work with the NRL management team,” Ms Laing said.
“I have been inspired by the big hearts of the rugby league community. I am in awe of the athleticism and courage of our players and I am proud of the initiatives and innovation which has been introduced into the game of rugby league during my time on the Commission.”
Ms Laing’s departure means there are two vacancies on the ARLC Commission.
