Green Machine attack set for tune-up after breakdown against Manly

Ricky Stuart admitted his side’s attack wasn’t firing after the Raiders succumbed to a 14-6 loss against an injury-hit Manly side at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday.

The defeat was Canberra’s second in their last three matches and they only managed to scrape a 14-6 win over Wests Tigers last weekend.

"We are struggling with our attack and it is what I just told the players," Stuart said.

"We spoke thoroughly after the game. We can see what our issues are and there is not a lot of time before our next game so we have got to fix it quickly.

"We have got to get a little bit more football first but even when we have got the football, since we have come back from the break, we have been poor offensively.

"It wasn’t just tonight, this is something we have been talking about for the last couple of weeks now and we need to correct it."

The Raiders had just 41 per cent of possession after completing 31 of their 41 sets against a brave Sea Eagles outfit, which overcame the loss of Tom Trbojevic, Dylan Walker and Brad Parker to hang on for a victory.

"We made the job a lot harder than it should have been tonight and that is not taking away from the courage that Manly displayed," Stuart said.

"There was no lack of effort, there was no lack of trying. I think at times what killed us is that we tried too hard.

"It is certainly not a time now to be throwing everything out and starting all over again. We are not far away and it can be fixed quickly, we are identifying it and we want to fix it immediately because in four, five or six weeks down the track it will be too late."

Manly also exposed some defensive issues for Stuart to work on, with Trbojevic successfully targeting their right edge of Curtis Scott and Nick Cotric to score a try and lay on another for winger Tevita Funa before limping off with a hamstring problem in the 52nd minute.

"He [Trbojevic] is a wonderful player but we made some pretty poor choices there, to be honest," Stuart said.

"Again, there is not a lot to fix but we have got to fix it quickly in both attack and defensively.

"There was a lot of effort our there tonight, it was a very hard, physical game and we made it a lot harder than it was. We made it even more physical than it was because we kept turning over cheap possession.

"We have set a standard that we want to play every week. I am not going to panic and change the whole shop around."
