A late collapse against Cronulla cost Brisbane what should have been a relieving win off the back of a big effort from forwards Pat Carrigan, Payne Haas and Tevita Pangai jnr in Round 12.

At least the trio were rewarded by big scores on the VB Hard Earned index.

Carrigan was the player of the round for his game-high 49 tackles to go with 210 metres while Haas (218 metres, 43 tackles and four busts) and Pangai (186 metres, seven busts, five offloads and 21 tackles) each earned a spot in the VB Hard Earned team of the week.

Another big-minute effort from Eels prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard, who punched out 44 tackles and 201 metres in 73 minutes, has lifted him into the top eight for the first time.

Each player's VB Hard Earned index score is calculated by doubling their total runs and adding a point for every tackle, offload, decoy, support, charge down and tackle break.

Negative plays lower the index score. One point is taken off per missed tackle, while errors and penalties cost four points. Being sin-binned results in eight points being subtracted.

Moeaki Fotuaika (86) and Harry Grant (73) were typically busy in their teams' respective losses while it's no surprise to see Souths five-eighth Cody Walker (55) earn a spot after his all-star effort in the absence of halves partner Adam Reynolds against the Dragons.

Things are still tight at the top with Jake Trbojevic and Payne Haas tied for first for the second week running after each produced an index score of 93 in round 12. Tohu Harris has jumped past Panthers due Isaah Yeo and James Fisher-Harris into third.
