Broncos coach Anthony Seibold.

Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold will spend the next 14 days in COVID self-isolation after remaining in Sydney on Friday night due to "a serious family matter".

The Broncos released a statement on Saturday saying their coach was expected to return to Brisbane during the next 48 hours but would then spend 14 days self-isolating as per COVID-19 guidelines.

Brisbane assistant coach Peter Gentle will take over the head coaching role during Seibold's absence.

Broncos CEO Paul White said: "Anthony is dealing with a serious family matter and could not fly back to Brisbane with the team after the Rabbitohs game last night.

"He expects to be able to return to Brisbane within 48 hours but in line with COVID regulations he will need to self-isolate for 14 days once he is back in Queensland.

"We are working with Anthony to give him all the support he and his family need at this time, and we ask media to respect his privacy."

Prior to the family-related issue that resulted in Seibold remaining in Sydney, the side he coaches suffered a 28-10 loss to South Sydney at ANZ Stadium.
