Seven weeks on from a nasty leg gash, Corey Oates has seemingly gained pace with the Broncos winger motoring to the top speed of Round 17 in his return game.

There were initially fears for the Queensland representative's career when he was hurt against the Wests Tigers in Round 10, but scans fortunately cleared him of a compound fracture.

Oates came back in last Thursday's 25-12 loss to heavyweights Penrith and recorded a high speed of 35.4km/h, per Telstra Tracker data.

The 25-year-old hadn't made the weekly top five speeds in his previous 10 appearances this season.

Oates also made 123 metres from 14 runs in a solid return.

He beat Eels winger Blake Ferguson (34.5km/h), Bulldogs back Nick Meaney (34.3), Rabbitohs centre Campbell Graham (34) and Sharks fullback Will Kennedy (33.7) for top honours in the speed stakes.

In other results, Dragons pair Adam Clune and Zac Lomax tied for covering the most distance with 9.8km against the Cowboys. Warriors halfback Chanel Harris-Tavita (9.6km), Knights centre Enari Tuala (9.4) and Eels back-rower Ryan Matterson (9.3) filled out the top five.

Parramatta captain Clint Gutherson, as he so often does, led the way for high-speed efforts (bursts of 20km/h or more) with 36, tying with Sea Eagles fullback Tevita Funa and Melbourne dynamo Ryan Papenhuyzen.

Tuala (33) and Storm centre Justin Olam (33) came in next.
