Parramatta must beat Wests Tigers on Saturday to secure an all-important top-four spot. If they lose, Canberra can jump them by defeating Cronulla in the preceding match.
A second chance in the playoffs could prove crucial, so both sides will be desperate to earn the privilege.
Meanwhile, Newcastle moved ahead of South Sydney into sixth place last round and can book a home semi-final against the Rabbitohs with a win over the resurgent Titans on Friday.
And at the other end, the battle to avoid the wooden spoon is ongoing. The Broncos must down the Cowboys and hope the Bulldogs lose to minor premiers Penrith to jump out of last place.
