Cronulla's Fine Kula has been cleared of cancer by doctors after a tough 10-month fight against an aggressive brain cancer.
The 21-year-old Sharks squad member was diagnosed with medulloblastoma at the start of the year but after 10 months of chemotherapy and hospital visits, was last week told a full body scan turned up no signs of any cancer remaining.
According to the Sharks website, Kula's father Solomon was still braced for anything at least week's scan before being given the best possible news.
"The doctor says he is clear, there is nothing to talk about. No tumor, no cancer, bone marrow clean, organs clean. Blood count it's clear. We just couldn't believe it," Solomon said.
"(The doctors) thought Fine would never walk out of Westmead Hospital.
"Anything is possible. We thank God for giving Fine a second chance. We know there is purpose for Fine. He can spread the message to others that you can't give up."
Kula will still require regular check-ups and it will take some time for his health to return after the heavy doses of chemotherapy, and will also require a medication that will help prevent the tumour from returning, according to sharks.com.au.
The medication costs up to $60,000 per year, with the Sharks directing those who wish to help support Kula to his family's GoFundMe page.
