Gerard Sutton will referee the first ever State of Origin in Adelaide.

The NRL today confirmed the match officials for the first Ampol State of Origin match, at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, November 4.

The Referees Appointments Committee nominated the same group which officiated in the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final to take charge of the opening Origin match.

“The Referees Appointments Committee felt the Grand Final officials deserve the opportunity to officiate in the first Origin match,” NRL Head of Football Elite Competitions Graham Annesley said.

“It is certainly beneficial to bring that recent big game experience into Origin. I wish them well in Adelaide as they press their claims for the rest of the series.”

The match will be Sutton’s 17th consecutive State of Origin match.

The match officials for the first Ampol State of Origin match, on November 4 at Adelaide Oval, are:

Referee: Gerard Sutton

Review Official: Steve Chiddy

Touch Judges: Chris Butler and Todd Smith

Standby Referee: Ashley Klein

Standby Touch Judge: David Munro
