The Newcastle Knights have named a five-man leadership group for the 2021 season, which doesn't include former captain Mitchell Pearce.

Pearce stood down from the Knights captaincy earlier this month over an off-season text messaging scandal, with the new captain to come from the group of five named on Saturday.

The new leadership group consists of star fullback Kalyn Ponga, veteran five-eighth Blake Green, Origin prop Daniel Saifiti, workhorse lock Mitch Barnett and hooker Jayden Brailey.

The club is set to announce which player will captain the side at the season launch in March.
