Rabbitohs hooker Damien Cook.

Premiers Melbourne and title challengers South Sydney kick off the 2021 Telstra Premiership on Thursday night with a clash that many are tipping is a grand final preview.

Even though Cameron Smith has retired, a galaxy of stars from both squads will be looking to further establish their title credentials with victory in this heavyweight bout between two high-scoring line-ups.

Storm-Rabbitohs may get top billing but every Round 1 clash will demand the fans' attention as finals contenders look to put their first two points on the board and last season's strugglers strive to show that hopes of a turnaround are well-founded.

A good old-fashioned local derby will round off proceedings when the Dragons host the Sharks at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Sunday evening.

NRL.com will have live match centres which include updates as they happen, in-match highlights and live audio coverage.

There have been changes to Telstra's Live pass in 2021. More information on the changes can be found here.
