Milestone man: Records in sight as Johnston marks 150

South Sydney flyer Alex Johnston brings up his 150th NRL game on Saturday at the age of just 26 and with 111 tries already under his belt, hopes to target some all-time records.

The home clash against Wests Tigers will be a special moment for the Indigenous All Stars representative and PNG international.

"Yeah, 150, I'm looking forward to it," Johnston told NRL.com.

"I guess I'm blessed and very lucky to be in this situation. Touch wood, everything goes right and I've got another 150 to go.

"Growing up, coming through the junior ranks there wasn't another club I thought I'd play for. The fact it's been the case and I've played 150 for Souths, it's been awesome."

Despite how quickly he's made it to 150, Johnston joked it didn't feel that way.

Which team do you love to beat the most?

"I know people say it's gone quick but I feel so old, my body feels like I've played 300!" he laughed.

With 111 tries in 149 outings, the all-time club record of 146 by Nathan Merritt is potentially within striking distance by the time Johnston's current deal expires at the end of 2022.

If he maintains anything like his career strike rate and plays another six or so years, the all-time mark of 212 by North Sydney and Manly speedster Ken Irvine is a mathematical possibility.

"Obviously that's something we'll cross when it happens," Johnston said.

"I just want to score as many tries I can but do what I need to do for the team. There's a few records in the future that I would be stoked to get. It's a long way off but it would be awesome."

Johnston's milestone is a big deal for his teammates as well.

"It's a massive achievement for him – I'm very proud of him," hooker Damien Cook said.

"I'm very close with AJ and from the last couple of years, especially last year what he went through when he had to fight for his position, he's an outstanding winger and he's done a great job for us again this year."

Rabbitohs lock Cameron Murray said the whole side would be desperate to get a win for Johnston.

"It's a massive achievement for someone so young. A little bit of extra incentive for us to play good.
