Six teams could be lining up in the NRLW this year with the ARL Commission considering expanding the four-club competition for its fourth season.

The Commission met on Friday and discussed the possibility of adding more teams although no final decision has been made.

Further discussions will be held before the competition structure is formalised.

Brisbane will be chasing a fourth straight trophy this season while fellow foundation clubs St George Illawarra and Sydney Roosters are also set to return.

The status of the Warriors, who fielded a team largely made up of Australian-based players last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is yet to be finalised.

Women's rugby league has been a huge growth area for the sport in recent years due to the success of the Telstra Women's Premiership, the State of Origin attracting record crowds and TV ratings, while the Jillaroos have helped ensure the international game has also come along in leaps and bounds.
