South Sydney take on Melbourne in an epic showdown to kick off round nine of the Telstra Premiership.

With the Ampol State of Origin series looming on the horizon, this week's matches are crucial for each team's chances but also for individual selections in the state squads.

Penrith host Cronulla in the first of the Friday night matches before the Eels and Roosters light up Bankwest Stadium.

The Super Saturday schedule kicks off with the Raiders travelling to Wagga Wagga to take on Newcastle as part of the EISS Super Series, the Tigers will pay tribute to Magpies icon Tommy Raudonikis at Campbelltown when they meet the Titans while the Cowboys square off with Brisbane in an all-Queensland affair in Townsville.

In Sunday's game, Manly return to Lottoland for the first time in a few weeks up against the Warriors before the round finishes with the Dragons celebrating the centenary of the St George side of their joint venture with Illawarra when they lock horns with the Bulldogs.
