Justin Holbrook conceded the Titans were outclassed by the Rabbitohs on Saturday but believes they can learn from their mistakes in time to face the Storm next week.
Gold Coast were shellacked 36-6 but it could have been even worse after South Sydney held a commanding 24-0 half-time lead.
While Holbrook was somewhat heartened by a respectable performance in the last 40 minutes, he knows his team must improve their execution to trouble first-placed Melbourne on Thursday.
The coach confirmed he would assess his options for that clash, including whether to reinstate halfback and co-captain Jamal Fogarty, but was cagey about promoting David Fifita to the starting team.
"It was obviously tough and disappointing. I just think we never looked likely. We created a few chances, couldn't finish them, and they played way better than us," Holbrook said at Cbus Super Stadium.
"I was confident coming into the game and right from the start [the Rabbitohs] were flying off their line.

"They didn't care whether it was six-again or not or how slow they made it because they knew we were buried deep in our own end and we couldn't get out of there.
"And then the second half, I thought we fought bravely, created a few chances, but against good sides you've got to convert them... All in all, we were beaten by a far better side than us.
"It’s a short turnaround into next Thursday night, so we can't dwell on it too much. We've got to look to bounce back straight away.
"We just made too many errors. We got caught trying to continue on from last week's game rather than starting again fresh. Pushed passes and took some poor options and they buried us for it."
The Storm are on an 18-game winning streak but Holbrook said the seventh-placed Titans have "no choice" except to rise to the challenge presented by Craig Bellamy's well-oiled machine.
"We have to, and I'm confident we can," he said.
"We've just got to dust ourselves off quick and realise what it's going to take to beat those good sides."
Asked if he'd consider returning Fifita to his customary role as a run-on second-rower after four weeks on the bench, Holbrook said: "I don't think that mattered really today.

"I'll look at obviously the whole side, but I don't think that factored."
The star forward was injected in the 24th minute on Saturday but the Rabbitohs had already mounted a 12-0 lead by that stage.
However, Fogarty's chances of a recall after four weeks on the sidelines - initially with a finger injury, then because of rookie playmaker Toby Sexton's hot form - appear to be firming.
"I'm not sure. In particular [with] a short turnaround, we'll need some fresh troops so I'm going to have to look at that," Holbrook said.
