Finals Week 1 charges: Verrills, Sue banned

Sam Verrills has failed in his bid to escape a suspension at the judiciary on Tuesday night and will miss the Roosters' next two matches.

A grade two careless high tackle charge meant Verrills had to win at the judiciary in order to play against Manly next weekend. Having now received a two-match ban, the Roosters will need to reach the grand final for Verrills to play again this season.

The incident in question is a 36th-minute tackle on Titans centre Brian Kelly on Saturday night.

Verrills charged for high tackle on Kelly

The Roosters entered an early guilty plea but challenged the grading which meant he would have received a fine had he been successful.

Knights forward Sauaso Sue has received a two-week ban for a leg twist on Eels winger Blake Ferguson but with Newcastle eliminated, the suspension will be served in 2022.

Eels forward Junior Paulo has received a $1600 fine for a high tackle on Kurt Mann while Marata Niukore received a $2400 penalty after being found guilty of a dangerous contact charge at the judiciary.

Schuster fined for lifting tackle on Hughes

Manly forward Josh Schuster has accepted a fine of $1150 after being charged with a dangerous throw on Melbourne halfback Jahrome Hughes in the 55th minute of Friday night's qualifying loss.

Panthers forward Viliame Kikau has been fined $2150 for his dangerous contact on Rabbitohs second-rower Jaydn Su'A.
