The National Rugby League (NRL) tonight revealed the Top 5 players in the 2021 Dally M Medal countdown. Daly Cherry-Evans, Nathan Cleary, James Tedesco, Tom Trbojevic and Cody Walker will battle for the game’s highest individual honour.

The five finalists for the 2021 Dally M Medal were announced tonight during the first of two Dally M Awards broadcasts. The Dally M Awards gala ceremony will be held next Monday, September 27, at Howard Smith Wharves in Brisbane. It will feature the major award winners including the Dally M Medal, the Dally M Team of the Year, Coach, Captain and Rookie of the Year.

During the broadcast this evening, the following awards were also confirmed:

Ken Irvine Medal (Top Try Scorer): Alex Johnston (Rabbitohs)

Top Points Scorer: Reuben Garrick (Sea Eagles)

YOUI Tackle of the Year: Xavier Coates (Broncos)

DrinkWise Try of the Year: Tom Trbojevic (Sea Eagles)

VB Hardest Working Player of the Year: Isaiah Papali’i (Parramatta Eels)

NRL Chief Executive Andrew Abdo said the Top 5 players named ahead of the Dally M Medal countdown had been standouts throughout the year.

“Tonight we began the celebration of our best athletes, those that have defied impossible during one of the most challenging and unique season in our game’s history,’’ he said.

“With all the challenges we have faced this year, it is a wonderful opportunity to go deeper in celebrating the exceptional performances of 2021.

“I congratulate the winners tonight for some of the most remarkable feats of the 2021 NRL Telstra Premiership.  We all cannot wait to see next week’s count where we will crown our Dally M player of the year.”
