Capewell backs new coach Slater as fans get golden chance

Queensland star Kurt Capewell is excited about the appointment of new coach Billy Slater and believes the Maroons can turn the tables on NSW if they are able to keep the same team for each match.

The 2022 Ampol State of Origin series heads to Perth next year, as well as Brisbane and Sydney, and Capewell hopes to retain his place in the Queensland squad for all three matches.

The Maroons bounced back from losses in the first two matches of this year's series to win the third game and will be aiming to build on that success when Slater takes over next season from Paul Green.

"I look forward to next year, coming in and turning around the result," Capewell said.

"I think as a squad we struggled to have the same team in each game so hopefully we can build off that Game III win.

"It is a bit tough to build combinations in camp when you don't play with those people very often but if we can get the same team on the field in each game I think we will give it a crack."

Analysing the Maroons' resurgence in Origin III

While Capewell is not guaranteed selection, fans have the opportunity to attend all three Origin matches by winning the Coates Golden Ticket.

"It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be able to go to each of the State of Origins in three different cities," Capewell said.

"To follow the whole series along the way is an amazing package and definitely whoever wins it is going to be one lucky person."

Capewell was in the extended Maroons squad when Origin was played in Perth for the first time in 2019 before a 60,000 crowd at Optus Stadium and he hopes to have the opportunity to play in the WA capital next year.

"Unfortunately, it wasn't a great result for Queensland but it was still awesome to be there," Capewell said.

"It is a great stadium and it holds a lot of people so to see that full it was next level atmosphere.

"From all reports, the fans who went over to Perth absolutely loved it so I think it is an awesome idea to take a game over there again and I know that any one of my family or friends would be very happy to win that ticket."
