Feeney focussed on NRLW pre-season

With the NRLW fixture now set, the inaugural Titans coach has his eyes set on a debut season.

Jamie Feeney will lead the Titans and says he's excited for training to begin.

He spoke with Titans.com.au this week to discuss the season ahead.

Are you excited now that the NRLW draw is out and you know when the competition will start?

Most definitely. It has been a long wait for both the and for our staff. Being out on the field and doing what we do  fills a void that is hard to fill during the off-season period (and ours has been a VERY long off season). I get goosebumps just thinking about getting back out there with the squad and preparing once again.

What game are you most looking forward to?

The very first one in round one. It is such an honour to be given the responsibility of being the inaugural coach of this team and I am really looking forward to watching the team represent the Gold Coast and our community in our very first game.  We'll be the first team to run out wearing the new logo as well.

What will it be like to finally see the first Titans NRLW game at Cbus Super Stadium?

If I'm being honest, it will be a relief. A lot of planning and work has gone into preparing for the first competition which started with recruiting way back in June. It will be a huge relief packed with a whole lot of excitement and hopefully a great performance and a win in front of our very loyal and supportive fans.

Starting at home with the local derby/rivalry game – how exciting is that/what will that mean to the team?

It's a great move by the NRL to schedule our first home game against the Broncos. It isn't until round four of the competition but hopefully we will be firing by this point and we will need to be at our very best to beat the current premiers. I am sure our girls will put on a great show and make everyone on the Gold Coast proud.

What is the plan from here?

We are under some pretty strict protocols with preparation and cannot really train as a group until January 10 so we will keep training as individuals following some training plans and have a social session prior to Christmas so we can rekindle and reignite the fire in their bellies before coming back together after the Christmas break.

When does pre-season start? Any trials etc?

Pre-season will officially kick off on January 10 so there is still a little bit of time to go but it will come around really quickly so we need to be ready. Hopefully we will be able to get the girls to gel quickly and regain the camaraderie we started to develop when we briefly began to prepare for season 2021 back in August. It is really important for these girls to regroup quickly and re-build our 'team-first' mentality. No trials locked in as yet.
