Leading barrister Alan Sullivan QC has today been appointed to the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC).

The ARLC accepted the unanimous recommendation from the game’s Nomination Committee for Mr Sullivan to be appointed as a Commissioner.

A distinguished barrister, Mr Sullivan has a long association with rugby league having Chaired the New South Wales and Australian Rugby League judiciaries and represented the Commission in many legal matters. Mr Sullivan is also a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys AM said Alan agreeing to join the Board is a coup for the game.

“Alan is not only one of Australia’s most eminent legal minds but he also has the added benefit of having immense corporate knowledge of our game having represented the Commission over a long period of time. This experience will be invaluable and will generate immediate outcomes,’’ he said.

“When you look at the skill matrix of the Commission, the Nominations Committee and the Commission agreed that we would benefit from the addition of a leading legal mind and Alan brings that skillset along with a deep understanding of rugby league and a distinguished career working with multiple sports, both domestically and internationally.”

Mr Sullivan said it was his immense privilege to be invited to join the Commission and looks forward to contributing to the great game.
