"I think not only will we inspire the next generation of coaches, we'll open the door for them and that's the most important thing."

Earlier this year, the Newcastle Knights announced that Ronnie Griffiths would feature as their head coach for the 2022 NRL Telstra Women's Premiership.

For a long time, Griffiths, a proud Indigenous man, was the only Aboriginal coach in the men's game while working with Michael Maguire at Wests Tigers — a stark contrast to the playing group where nearly 15% of players in the NRL have Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage and connection.

Thankfully, things are starting to change with the NRLW with Griffiths joining several proud Indigenous players at the Knights this coming season.
