Final Four: Brisbane Broncos

After winning just seven games last year and finishing 14th, the Broncos have done a remarkable job to have a finals berth seemingly secured with four rounds to play.

What they can't afford to do now is let the good work go to waste by faltering in the final four weeks and miss out on a crucial top-four finish.

Provided skipper Adam Reynolds and forward leader Payne Haas can stay healthy, there's no doubt the Broncos have the firepower to challenge for the title, especially if they get home ground advantage at Suncorp Stadium during the finals.

The return of Origin flyer Selwyn Cobbo from concussion will give their backline an ominous look as they power towards a first finals appearance since 2019.

The final four games

  • Round 22 v Knights (H)
  • Round 23 v Storm (H)
  • Round 24 v Eels (H)
  • Round 25 v Dragons (A)

The Broncos face massive games against the Storm and Eels, the two sides currently level with them on 26 competition points.

The Knights game is one they would expect to win and the air may have gone out of the Dragons' balloon by Round 25 so a victory there would be a nice springboard into week one of the play-offs.

Home, sweet home

Brisbane have won seven of 10 games at Suncorp Stadium in 2022, including a thumping 38-0 win over Manly in Magic Round which was a Sea Eagles home game. The slip-up against Wests Tigers in round 20 may yet prove to be an anomaly.

The final two home games of the regular season against the Storm and Eels should draw massive crowds and prove the perfect tune-up for the high pressure games to come.

On the road

The Dragons at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in round 25 could be a tricky proposition but it's the sort of game the Broncos should be winning if they're going to be any chance of breaking a 16-year premiership drought.

Must-watch game

The Broncos-Storm clash in Round 23 promises to be a beauty if their Round 15 showdown in Melbourne is any guide. After scores were locked 16-16 at half-time the Storm went on to win 32-20. A top-four spot could be on offer at Suncorp Stadium when a host of Origin superstars go head-to-head.

  • Best case finish: 2nd
  • Worst case finish: 11th

The Broncos have top four and a double chance well within their grasp if they can win at least three of their final four games of the regular season.
