Gutherson hits go with big Telstra Tracker numbers

Eels skipper Clint Gutherson’s high-speed haul stood out in the Telstra Tracker data for round 23, with the fullback featuring prominently across a number of categories.

Gutherson ran for a round-high 880 metres at speeds greater than 20 kilometres per hour, in addition to 284 metres of sprinting (speeds above 25 km/h), which was the fourth best total achieved last week in that category.

He featured in the top 10 for total distance and relative distance travelled (metres per minute) as well, finishing with 9159 metres and 100.3 metres in those categories respectively.

Playmakers dominated the top five in terms of total distance travelled last week, led by Newcastle half Adam Clune’s 9626 metres, while Cowboys flyer Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow clocked the highest top speed for the round at 36 km/h.

In the NRLW Millie Boyle had a busy club debut for the Knights in which she covered more metres per minute than any other NRLW player, helping Newcastle to their first ever victory in the competition.

Boyle's 93.3 metres/min saw her top the round narrowly ahead of Brisbane interchange forward Kaitlyn Phillips (92.8 metres/min).

However outside of relative distance it was Dragons players who stole the show in the data through the opening round of the 2022 season, with members of the Red V topping the four other categories measured by the Tracker.

No player put in more efforts at speed than Dragons centre Keele Browne, who finished top for both high speed distance (714 metres) and sprint distance (320 metres). All up Browne tallied 7075 metres of running, which put her third for the round behind her teammates Andie Robinson (7251 metres) and Rachael Pearson (7268 metres).

Robinson had an impressive NRLW debut, which included a try and the second-most total distance covered for round 1 (7251 metres).

Speedy wing Teagan Berry recorded the top maximum velocity of the round at 31.5 km/h, followed by Indigenous All Stars rep Taliah Fuimaono (29.5 km/h) and Kiwi Ferns centre Page McGregor (29.1 km/h).
