Future stars ready to ‘make their mark’ grand final day

Rugby league fans can today secure tickets to the 2023 Hostplus Cup and Hastings Deering Colts grand finals at Kayo Stadium next month.

The Redcliffe venue is locked in to host the two highly-anticipated premiership deciders on Sunday, September 17, with tickets on sale to the public from 10am this morning.

The future stars of the game will be on show in the 3.15pm Colts match, before the twilight footy spectacle kicks in with the start of the Cup decider at 5.30pm.

Queensland Rugby League competitions manager David Maiden said grand final day promised to be another sensational event.

“Fantastic atmosphere… great stadium, full house, and glorious sunshine is obviously our plan,” Maiden said.

“It’s one of the favourite times of the year for us, in terms of the QRL statewide competitions and the QRL in general, because it is an opportunity to see some of the game’s rising stars in action.

“Our clubs have toiled away since November, and it’s always a great reward for the players, coaches and support staff to be in a position to soak up the occasion with their family, friends and supporters.”

If last year’s grand finals at the same venue are any indication, spectators and the viewers at home are set for another “edge of your seat experience”.

More than 7000 fans watched on as Norths Devils held out a fast-finishing Redcliffe Dolphins outfit to win the 2022 grand final 16-10.

The Colts match between Townsville Blackhawks and the Dolphins was another rollercoaster, before the northern team triumphed 46-32 in a thriller.

Exactly who qualifies for the Cup grand final is still up in the air, with 12 teams still in contention for the top eight.

The race for the top eight is not quite as frantic in the Colts, although the minor premiership remains wide open with Tweed Seagulls, Burleigh Bears and Brisbane Tigers all locked on 24 competition points with two rounds remaining.

The teams that qualify for the September finale are set to play in front of another healthy crowd, with the on-field action to be supported by a range of entertainment.

Tickets can be purchased from as little as $65 for a family of four and some attractive hospitality options are available as well.

Hospitality packages include the Shell V-Power Civoniceva Lounge, or an afternoon from the Terrace overlooking the field with mates.

Fans are also encouraged to support the 50-50 charity raffle in support of Hampo’s Youth Foundation.
