A suspected hand injury to star centre Jess Sergis was the only blight on an otherwise brilliant day for the Roosters, as they ran out 46-12 winners over the Eels to remain top of the NRLW ladder.

Sergis picked up the injury in the act of scoring her second try midway through the second half, leaving the field immediately and failing to return.

The game was well and truly over by that stage though, after the Roosters scored four tries in the opening 35 minutes to lead 22-2 at the break, before going on with the job in the second half in convincing fashion.

After Isabelle Kelly sent Otesa Pule over for the first, Mia Wood scored her fourth try in two games and Amelia Pasikala and Sergis followed up with four-pointers of their own before half-time.

Pani Hopoate was first to cross in the second period, before both Sergis and Pule sealed their personal doubles, but in between that Mahalia Murphy scored a consolation four-pointer for the Eels.

The Roosters fell just short of cracking the half century in the end, after Keeley Davis' try 13 minutes from time had made that a chance, while Parramatta ended the game with a nice try through Kimberley Hunt.

The Tricolours will now sweat on further updates on Sergis' injury ahead of a top-of-the-table clash with the Knights in Round 8, which could decide who claims the minor premiership in 2023.

Match Snapshot

  • The Roosters have now won three of four clashes against the Eels.
  • Roosters forward Olivia Kernick went on report for a dangerous tackle in the 52nd minute.
  • With her first-half try against the Eels, Roosters wing Mia Wood made it four tries across her first two NRLW games.

  • The Roosters made 11 line breaks in the win, compared to Parramatta's three.
  • Tarryn Aiken finished the game with 170 run metres, two line break assists and a try assist.
  • The Roosters have scored the most tries in the competition with 47 through seven games.

Play of the Game

Just one of a number of highlight-worthy plays from Tarryn Aiken in Round 7. A nice dummy and step saw her break through the line and link with Amelia Pasikala, who had only seconds earlier come into the game from the bench.

What They Said

“They tried their heart out and gave everything they could. I suppose when the momentum went with the Roosters, they showed what a special team they are. They were hard to handle at times and clocked up the points, but our girls kept fighting and we learned a lot from that game." – Eels coach Dean Widders.

Eels: Round 7

"Really happy... Parra obviously came off a really good win last week against the Cowboys, so we knew they would come here with some confidence and hoping to continue that, but it was more about us and all the little areas we need to work on. We need to make sure no matter who we play, we can solve what is thrown at us and obviously put performances like that in.” – Roosters coach John Strange.

What's Next

A trip north to play the Titans at Cbus Super Stadium awaits the Eels in Round 8, while the Roosters are away to the Knights in a top-of-the-table clash at McDonald Jones Stadium.
