BMD Premiership draw released for 2024

An expanded BMD Premiership season featuring competition newcomers the Western Clydesdales and Sunshine Coast Falcons will showcase Queensland’s best female talent from early March.

The Toowoomba-based Clydesdales have drawn the Central Queensland Capras, while the Falcons line up against the Brisbane Tigers in just two of the highly-anticipated Round 1 fixtures, following the release of the 2024 draw.

With the competition expanding from eight clubs to 10 in 2024, the regular season will see each team play each other once over nine action-packed rounds that will determine the four semi-finalists.

Reigning premiers the Burleigh Bears begin their title defence against the Norths Devils, while the Wynnum Manly Seagulls – who went down to the Bears in the hard-fought 2023 decider – meet the Souths Logan Magpies in Round 1.

After falling agonisingly short against the Bears in last season’s preliminary final, the Mackay Cutters are building nicely ahead of their season opener against the Tweed Seagulls.

Queensland Rugby League competitions manager Dave Maiden is tipping a hard-fought premiership season that will reach new heights in 2024.

“The inclusion of both the Clydesdales and Falcons expands the statewide footprint of the BMD Premiership,” Maiden said.

“Importantly, both clubs have brought some home-grown talent back to ensure strong first-year rosters, which are further supported by female participation growth in their respective catchment areas.”

The form of players in the BMD Premiership will shape the selection of the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons team for its three match State of Origin series against New South Wales.

The Premiership also plays a pivotal role in preparing players for the NRLW, with 22 new players taking that path for the first time in 2023.

A number of these players also came through the Harvey Norman Under 19 competition, a further endorsement of Queensland’s female pathways.
