A triple-digit effort from Keaon Koloamatangi led the way in a Round 12 full of surprises for Fantasy coaches, while Dylan Edwards again reminded us of his value in 2024.

While many suffered at the hands of Nicho Hynes' dodgy calf muscle, there were some good scores for point of difference players and an opportunity to hit a big overall tally if you got your captaincy decision correct.

NRL Fantasy by the numbers: Round 12

Edwards joins teammate atop consistency chart

With his 70-point haul for the Panthers over the weekend Dylan Edwards has now joined teammate Isaah Yeo as Fantasy's most reliable scorer.

The $823k WFB has failed to score over 50 points just twice in 11 games this season and has not done so since Round 3, with his biggest variation in scores since then being just 13 points with a high of 70 and low of 57.

He and Yeo now both boast a consistency rating of 80 in addition to sitting inside the top five for highest average score to date in season 2024.

Dylan Edwards Try

A telling mid-round blow

Nicho Hynes’ calf muscle wasn’t the only thing hurting at half-time in Saturday night’s clash between the Sharks and Panthers, with over a third of all Fantasy coaches at that point learning that their captain would be ending his night on just 17 points.

With 36.5 percent of teams having Hynes as captain, it meant a lot of lower scores for the round but presented a huge opportunity for others. More fortunate captaincy choices meant a big jump up the overall standings for some, while in head-to-head leagues Hynes' withdrawal on 32 minutes meant anyone with him as skipper was at a huge disadvantage from that point on.

Hynes won't return

As far as the other major captaincy picks went, 7.5 percent of teams enjoyed Payne Haas' 77, while the next most popular choices who played, Isaah Yeo and Patrick Carrigan, were decent with scores of 55 and 54 respectively.

Big guns MIA for Round 13

While it's to be expected that many top Fantasy players will be missing at this time of the year, it's quite remarkable that Round 13 will see 12 of the top 13 scorers by average so far this year out of action for one reason or another (assuming Trai Fuller plays for the Dolphins).

Most are away on Origin duty, but it's a brutal week in terms of bye scheduling too, with non-Origin players like David Fifita, Shaun Johnson and Addin Fonua-Blake all in teams who have a week off.

Fuller and Dolphins teammate Euan Aitken shape as two of the biggest potential scorers this week and will likely be highly captained as a result.
