The terminators: Galvin officially released from Tigers contract

Wests Tigers and Lachlan Galvin have mutually agreed to an immediate conclusion of his playing contract.

On Tuesday the 19-year-old was left out of the squad to face the Cowboys in Townsville on Saturday night and given time away from training as details of his future were being finalised.

"I am grateful to the Wests Tigers Board and Management for granting my early release. I wish the playing group success in the future," said Galvin.

Galvin has been strongly linked with a move to Canterbury after the fallout from his rejection of a five-year deal hastened his impending exit from Wests Tigers.

The playmaker was contracted to Wests Tigers until the end of the 2027 season, but he was given permission to negotiate with rival clubs during the club's Round 12 bye round.

Bulldogs head of football Phil Gould has confirmed that the club was preparing for Galvin's arrival at Belmore and that could happen before the Dogs' next match against Parramatta on June 9.

Tigers coach Benji Marshall named a 22-man squad for the trip to North Queensland which did not include Galvin.

Heath Mason comes into the side for his second NRL match of the season and has been named at five-eighth in place of Galvin.

Gould told Nine's 100% Footy on Monday night that Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo had met with Galvin last weekend.

He insisted that the signing of Galvin would not cause any disruption within the Bulldogs squad.

"I don't think anyone denies he is a talent. And you win premierships with talented players. It's my responsibility to get talented players into the club," Gould said.

"I think it will create great competition, that's what it'll create if he turns up.

"He's got talent. Why wouldn't you want a talented player at your football club? And why wouldn't the other players want talent at their football club? They do."

The Bulldogs have a bye this weekend and if they can finalise a deal before next Tuesday, Galvin could be available to face Parramatta, the other club courting his services, in the June 9 public holiday clash.

Gould indicated one option for Galvin could be the back row, with the Bulldogs facing a shortage in the forwards through a spate of suspensions and injuries.

"[Where he plays] will be up to the coaching staff. How he comes in and how he trains. How he gets along with the group team-wise," Gould said.

"The more depth you've got in the club, the more talented players you've got, the better."
