Accommodation partner confirmed for PNG Chiefs

The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has confirmed the accommodation partner for the PNG Chiefs franchise in Port Moresby.

The ARLC has secured a partnership with the Constantinou Group which will see the Chiefs’ accommodation based at the Airways resort in Port Moresby.

Constantinou group will develop new, world-class residential quarters at the existing Airways accommodation site.

The new development will see Airways provide 67 units to the ARLC and the Chiefs franchise. Players and staff, along with their families, will be housed in fully-furnished units at the facility.

Additionally, PNG Chiefs players, staff and their families will have access to the Loloata Island Resort facility, as well as the full suite of Airways communal facilities and amenities (including bar, gymnasium, pools, medical services, cafes and a barber).

ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys AM said the players, staff and their families will have world-class facilities at their disposal.

“This partnership will see PNG Chiefs players and staff housed in brand new, family-friendly accommodation. The Airways facility will not only deliver the team a world-class high-performance environment, but also a community feel which will be unique to professional Rugby League,” Mr V’landys said.

“The accommodation will not just be safe and secure, it will deliver a resort style standard of living with first-class amenities and lifestyle facilities.

“This is another important step towards ensuring that the Chiefs are successful on and off the field. The Chiefs will offer hope and opportunity for the country and the region, and it will start with delivering a world-class community environment for the players, staff and families."

Lorna McPherson, CEO of the PNG Chiefs, added: “Breaking ground on the player village is a proud moment for our club. This development is more than accommodation it’s about creating a true home where our players and their families feel safe, supported, and valued.

“The village reflects our commitment to the long-term success and wellbeing of everyone connected to the Chiefs, on and off the field. It’s also a key part of our vision to make a positive impact in the community and build a club that unites the people of PNG and brings pride to the nation.”

Constantinou Group, a privately owned and operated family business, was established in the 1950s and originated in Port Moresby.

The housing will be ready for occupancy from November, 2027.
