Parramatta players will honour Eels great Neville Glover OAM by wearing black armbands during their Easter Monday match against the Wests Tigers at CommBank Stadium.
Glover, who was a member of Parramatta's first Grand Final side in 1976, passed away after a short illness. He was aged 70.
An Eels life-member, Glover played 121 games for Parramatta a further 13 matches for Penrith over a nine-year career between 1975 and 1983. He scored 59 first grade tries.
Glover also played for NSW and Australia.
Beyond rugby league, Glover served with distinction in the New South Wales Police Force from 1981 to 2017, rising to the rank of Senior Sergeant in the Prosecuting Branch.
His service was recognised with the New South Wales Police Medal in 2013 and Police Prosecutor of the Year in 2008.
A dedicated community contributor, Neville supported numerous charitable organisations, including the Men of League Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Camp Quality, Cystic Fibrosis initiatives, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, and Make-A-Wish Australia.
In recognition of his broader contributions, Glover was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2018 for service to rugby league and the community.
In a statement on their website, the Eels said Glover’s passing has been deeply felt by the club, his former teammates, colleagues, and friends. He will forever remain a cherished member of the Blue and Gold family.
The Parramatta Eels and Parramatta Leagues Club offer their heartfelt condolences to his wife Sharyn, along with his family and friends.
