The battle for a place in the Queensland State of Origin team will come down to a Magic Round shootout for Maroons contenders this weekend. 

The likes of Reece Walsh and Cooper Bai have one last chance to impress Billy Slater before the Queensland coach names his side for the series opener on Wednesday May 27 at Accor Stadium. 

A host of positions remain up for grabs, with injuries putting a cloud over some incumbents while potential debutants have produced a form surge to rocket into contention.

The loss of Tom Dearden to an ankle injury opens the door for a new face or a returning veteran to partner Cam Munster in the halves, with Sam Walker and Daly Cherry-Evans among the contenders.

North Queensland five-eighth Jake Clifford also shapes as a potential bolter and will go head-to-head with both Walker and Cherry-Evans when the Cowboys take on the Roosters on Saturday evening.
