The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has confirmed Auckland will host Game Two of the 2027 Ampol State of Origin Series on Wednesday, June 16 next year.
The announcement comes as Travel Packages and Hospitality go on sale for the historic Eden Park clash, which will be the first game in the history of Australia’s greatest sporting rivalry to be played on New Zealand soil.
ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys AM said the announcement gives New Zealand fans an opportunity to lock in their date with Rugby League history and for Blues and Maroons fans across Australia and the Pacific to secure their travel plans.
“State of Origin is truly unique. It creates an atmosphere unlike anything else in Australian sport—fierce rivalry, raw passion and an intensity that can only be understood by experiencing it firsthand. It’s a bucket list event.” Mr V’landys said.
“It’s not just the Origin match fans can look forward to - we are planning a week of Rugby League festivities in the lead up to the event starting with a Warriors game at Eden Park on the Sunday afternoon prior to the Origin fixture. It’s going to be a complete takeover of Auckland showcasing the best of our game to New Zealanders and fans travelling from all over the world.”
New Zealand’s Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston welcomed confirmation of the date, and the next milestone in preparations to host the historic fixture in Auckland.
“The countdown is officially on for New Zealand’s first-ever State of Origin match. We are excited to welcome Blues and Maroons fans from across Australia and to give Kiwi rugby league supporters the chance to witness this iconic rivalry firsthand. It will be a historic occasion for New Zealand and a fantastic opportunity to showcase Kiwi hospitality and our beautiful country to international visitors.”
Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown says confirmation of the date is another exciting milestone as Auckland prepares to host State of Origin for the first time.
“Bringing State of Origin to New Zealand for the first time is a big win for Auckland. It’s one of the biggest events in Australasian sport, and we’re looking forward to putting on something special for fans here and those travelling across the Tasman.
“Now the date is locked in, fans can start making their plans. We want them to come for more than just the game – make a week of it and experience Auckland’s take on State of Origin, in the stadium and around the city.”
