Fast feat: Jada revels in her 28 seconds of fame

Records are meant to be broken but maybe not as quickly as Broncos hooker Jada Ferguson turned Wests Tigers back-rower Shaylee Bent’s rapid fire four-pointer into a footnote.

Bent needed just 43 seconds to post the opening try against the Knights in Round 8 to set up a new NRLW record for the fastest four-pointer.

It looked like a mark that would stand for at least a season or two. 

But a week later and Ferguson took just 28 seconds to capitalise on an Eels mistake from the kick-off in their Round 9 match at CommBank Stadium. 

Eels half Cassey Tohi-Hiku tried to block a Jesse Southwell kick but it ricocheted back into Broncos forward Lauren Dam’s arms. Two plays later and Ferguson dived over from dummy half. 

“It was pretty crazy... once that ball bounced I was just yelling at the girls ‘Get on it, get on it’,” Ferguson told NRL.com.

“Then Loz (Dam) made a bit of a break and we had them on the back foot. It was great to get a try so early. 

“I didn’t realise I now had the fastest time until someone at half-time told me.

It was the first of eight Broncos tries as they dominated Parramatta for a 44-10 win and return to the winners’ circle after losses to the Raiders, Roosters and Titans.

The proud Brisbane club with four NRLW Premiership trophies sitting in its foyer did not want a record-setting fourth defeat. 

“We had to put a stop to the losing and what was going on behind that. We talked about our momentum leading up to this week and how we had to rise above," Ferguson said.

“The energy at training was really good from the girls. Everyone was putting in their extras, getting to training early, leaving later. 

“That led to great energy from the start (against Eels) that we didn’t have the previous weeks. 

“It showed by us getting up some tries early this time.” 

It most certainly did with the Broncos scoring six in the opening 35 minutes to take a 34-0 lead into the break. 

The return of Jillaroos half Ali Brigginshaw after a three-week suspension did have an impact but Ferguson said the resurgence took more than one player. 

“Ali is Ali. She is the calm, experienced head in our team but she’s not the only one,” Ferguson said of the Broncos, who boast nine Origin players. 

Brigginshaw more than made up for lost time with a line break, two line break assists, a try assist and three tackle busts. 

“It was fantastic to have her back but we all were determined to step up and be better – be more like the Broncos everyone knows," Ferguson said.

Winger Kerri Johnson in just her second NRLW season scored her second hat-trick of 2026 off the back of four line breaks, giving her seven tries from seven games this year. 

Now it’s onto the Dragons, who have sounded a warning by upsetting the Warriors in Auckland 22-18 in Round 9.

“We heard about that and will not be taking the Dragons lightly,” Ferguson said.

“We know what happens when you’re a little off your attitude and game – you get beaten.”
