'If nothing goes right, turn left': Raiders adhere to Bobbi's law

Stuck on the side of a highway waiting for a replacement bus was hardly the ideal preliminary final preparation for the Raiders NRLW side but Canberra girls don’t cry. 

In fact, they were still telling jokes about it when they finally made it home to the national capital late on Saturday night... from Friday night’s elimination final win over Wests Tigers at Campbelltown. 

The NRLW team had stayed behind to watch their feeder club Mounties play the Rabbitohs in the NSW Women’s Premiership preliminary final on Saturday at Kogarah. Mounties won 20-18 to advance to this weekend's grand final against the Knights.

“We were all together as a squad because the schedules of both teams don’t usually align,” Raiders centre Bobbi Law told NRL.com.  

“We wanted to watch and cheer for the Mounties girls because they show up for us every week and push us at training.” 

Law missed the transport debacle after hitching a ride with her parents but it’s the bond between players that she says has underpinned the Raiders season and propelled them into their first finals series.  

“Coming to Raiders was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my career – the club, the group of girls, the feeling around the place,” said Law, who had previous stints at the Roosters, Knights and Dragons.  

“Everyone has had the goal since pre-season to play finals footy.  

“We showed up every week even on those freezing Canberra nights when training isn’t fun, everyone still showed up with a smile on their face, and to push each other to be better. 

"Honestly, hand on heart, that’s why we’ve been playing some good footy and why we’re in a preliminary final against the Roosters.” 

There might be another reason as Law has a favourite saying: ‘If nothing goes right, turn left’.

She missed five weeks this year after breaking her wrist against the Sharks in the Round 4 22-10 loss. That was added to having her appendix removed in 2025 and suffering an ACL tear in 2020. 

“In a short season any injury over a couple of weeks feels like you’ve been out for a long time,” Law said. 

“I’ve had my fair share of injuries and sitting on the sidelines. It’s not something you can rush or think too much about. 

“I just did the things I still could despite becoming ‘a leftie’ for a few weeks. The training staff had me doing an awful lot of running I’ll tell you that much. 

“Mentally it was tough but now playing finals has been like a silver lining for me – it’s all good.” 

Facing the unbeaten Roosters could be daunting but the Raiders pushed the Tricolours to the limit in Round 3 in a 22-18 loss in Canberra,

“We’ve got confidence from playing them early in the season when they only got us in the last minutes, and from holding the Wests Tigers to zero last week," said Law.

“We’ve also got really good defensive systems, where we pride ourselves on having the back of our mate beside us.” 

Law will need that facing Jillaroos and NSW centre Jessica Sergis. 

“Every time I come up against Jess I know it’s a big challenge and I’m ready for it this weekend," said Law.

“Opposing her I watch the shape they are running and who is inside or outside of her. 

“It is also about trusting Zahara (Temara) on my inside and Izzy (Isabella Waterman) on my outside because the decisions we make – right or wrong – we make them together.”
