Souths Logan Magpies have claimed the 2026 BMD Premiership in extraordinary fashion, defeating the Burleigh Bears 31-30 in golden point at Kayo Stadium.
Locked at 30-all after 70 minutes, the grand final was decided by the boot of Lilianah Lewis, who calmly slotted the match-winning field goal to deliver the Magpies the premiership in a thriller.
Souths Logan made the brighter start, with Alessana Betham crossing in the 10th minute before Ngatokotoru Arakua added another eight minutes later.
Skyla Adams converted both tries to give the Magpies an early advantage, but Burleigh quickly worked their way back into the contest.
Sienna Laing sparked the Bears with tries in the 22nd and 26th minutes, before sister Ebony Laing crossed in the 36th minute.
The Magpies found an important response on the stroke of halftime, with Lewis crossing in the 40th minute and Adams converting to send Souths Logan into the break leading 18-16.
The second half quickly turned into a genuine grand final arm wrestle.
Souths Logan extended their advantage through Carayanidis Ta’Akimoeaka-Pulu in the 44th minute, but Burleigh refused to go away.
Sienna Laing completed a hat-trick in the 51st minute before Felice Quinlan crossed three minutes later, putting the Bears right back into the contest.
Shannon Muru then scored in the 57th minute as Burleigh surged to 30 points, before Keira Rangi answered for the Magpies in the 63rd minute.
Adams landed her fifth conversion of the afternoon to level the scores at 30-all and set up a dramatic finish.
Neither side could find the breakthrough before full-time, sending the BMD Premiership decider into golden point.
With the premiership on the line, Lewis stepped up and delivered, kicking the decisive one-pointer to seal a remarkable 31-30 victory for Souths Logan.
The result capped a pulsating grand final and handed the Magpies the BMD Premiership title after one of the closest deciders in competition history.
