The Sydney Roosters have suspended Mitchell Pearce for eight rounds and fined him $125,000 the club announced on Thursday afternoon.
Following the consideration of all relevant material relating to the incident, the Roosters issued Pearce the following sanctions:
1. Removal of club captaincy.
2. Suspended from the club leadership group for 2016.
3. $125,000 fine ($50,000 suspended).
4. Suspension from playing in the NRL for eight rounds, and his return will be subject to on-going rehabilitation and good conduct.
Sydney Roosters, CEO Mr John Lee, welcomed the finalisation of the matter.
"This was a complex and unprecedented matter that required careful consideration. It was paramount we delivered the appropriate level of discipline, but neither could we ignore the player welfare component," said Mr Lee.
"It was pleasing to see that Mitchell contacted our Chairman Nick Politis and suggested that the lengthy stint on the sideline was what he deserved," added Mr Lee.
When reflecting on the events and circumstances over the past five weeks, Pearce said that his focus was now entirely on his continuing rehabilitation.
"Firstly, for any hurt or damage I've caused anyone, especially my family, the Club and the NRL, I again apologise," said Pearce.
"Now that this has been decided, I can get on with my rehab, bunker down with training and work each day on making the right choices in what I do," he added.
