A Thirroul Butchers junior, Couchman progressed through the Dragons pathways system alongside identical twin Ryan.

A dynamic and versatile forward, Couchman represented the NSW Under 19s Origin side in 2022 and spent the following preseason training with the club’s NRL squad.

Having been upgraded to an NRL deal prior to the 2023 season kick-off, he made his NRL debut as a teenager off the bench in the side’s season opener at Jubilee.

He went on to play 15 games for the Red V as a rookie scoring a pair of tries and taking home the club’s Geoff Selby Memorial Trophy for NRL Emerging Talent.

He and his twin brother shared the NRL field for the first time against the Rabbitohs in Round 24 and, alongside Mathew and Max Feagai, became the first two sets of twins to ever appear in the same first grade game.

Couchman continued his development over the following years and is fresh off a campaign in which he made 13 appearances prior to a season-ending shoulder issue averaging 107 run metres and 507 tackles at 97 per cent efficiency.

The 22-year-old is under contract at the club until at least the end of the 2027 season having inked an extension in November of 2024.
