This Friday evening at Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville, the Cowboys and Bulldogs will go head to head for the annual Reconciliation Cup.

The Cup, which was commissioned in 2007 to mark the 40th anniversary of the 1967 referendum that brought all Australians together, will this year kick off the NRL’s Close the Gap Round.

The Close the Gap Round is a partnership between the NRL and Oxfarm, to help raise awareness around the significant gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and the rest of the Australian population. It is also the games’ chance to celebrate the tremendous contribution of Indigenous players in the code, and quite appropriately some of their most exciting talent including Johnathan Thurston, Jamal Idris and Matty Bowen will all take part in this game.

The match also is an important fixture in the Telstra Premiership calendar, with the North Queensland Cowboys needing to win in order to stay in the top eight, whilst the Bulldogs are keen to keep their slim hopes of a minor premiership alive.

Reconciliation Cup History:
