Penrith's premiership hopes were dealt a cruel blow on Monday with news influential co-captain Peter Wallace has been ruled out for the season after rupturing the ACL joint in his right knee during his team's loss to the Sharks in Bathurst on Saturday.

A statement released by the club indicated the injury was not a re-occurance of the left-knee injury Wallace suffered in their win over the Wests Tigers in Round 17.

Back-up scrumbase options Tyrone Peachey and Isaac John are already out for the season, leaving Ivan Cleary with few alternatives as the team desperately clings to their top-four dream.
