Sharks back-rower Jesse Colquhoun has inked a four-year extension through to the end of 2030.
The 24-year-old has racked up 29 NRL games since making his debut in Round 18, 2022 and the Collegians junior is determined to repay the Sharks for supporting him through a tough run with injuries.
"I'm extremely grateful I get to stay here for the next four years," Colquhoun said.
"The Sharks' loyalty towards me in those tough times definitely hasn't gone unnoticed and that's why I'm glad to call this place home.
"It gives me a lot of confidence knowing they're signing me on a long-term deal. Hopefully, I can return the favour by playing good, consistent footy."
The Cowboys, meanwhile, have signed hooker Soni Luke to a one-year contract for the 2026 NRL season.
The 29-year-old Tongan International appeared in 26 games for the Panthers over the course of four seasons, including 20 in the club’s 2023 premiership campaign.
“With the departure of Karl Lawton, we had an open spot in our roster for an experienced dummy-half to complement Reed Mahoney and Xavier Kerrisk,” said Cowboys general manager of football Micheal Luck.
"Soni has been a part of the Panthers system during their four consecutive grand final wins, so he knows what it takes to win and remain successful in the NRL."
Elsewhere, exciting outside back prospect Luke Laulilii is the latest player to sign with Perth Bears for their inaugural 2027 season.
At just 19, Laulilii is the youngest of the Bears' 13 recruits to date.
The versatile Wests Tigers outside back made his NRL debut in 2024 and captained the club's Harold Matthews Cup team in 2023. He has signed a two-year deal with the Bears.
“The Perth Bears provide an opportunity for me to continue to develop my game and take it to the next level,” Laulilii said.
“I’m excited about the prospect of playing in front of the fans in Perth.
“I know how much they love their sport and it’s a privilege to be a part of a rugby league team that represents the people of Western Australia.”
Fresh from unveiling the club logo earlier this week to overwhelming fan support, the signing of Laulilii continues the Bears’ strong recruitment drive in 2026.
“Luke is a very talented and athletic outside back who will provide us plenty of options,” Bears coach Mal Meninga said.
“He is a fantastic finisher and strong defender. I’m sure he will continue to develop this season and look forward to welcoming him and his family over to WA.”
Leeds Rhinos forward James McDonnell will also make the move to Perth after signing with the Bears for two years, along with Cronulla's Chris Vea’ila.
McDonnell was a member of the England training squad for the recent Ashes series after an outstanding season for Leeds, which earned him a place in the 2025 Super League Dream Team.
Rhinos team-mate Harry Newman has also signed with Perth Bears when they join the NRL next year.
"It’s been an ambition of mine to play in the NRL and I’m absolutely delighted to be given that chance with the Perth Bears," McDonnell said.
"The NRL is the toughest competition in the world, and I can’t wait to get over to Western Australia and test myself against the best of the best.
"It’s great to know that Harry Newman and a few other lads from the Super League will be joining me. My focus is on giving 100% for the Rhinos this year but it’s exciting to think that in a year’s time I’ll have the chance to be a part of history."
Harry Newman Try
Vea’ila scored in his NRL debut for the Sharks last season and shapes as a talented centre who will add firepower out wide for the Bears.
"I’ve kept an eye on McDonnell for a few years now and I thought he really went to another level in 2025," Bears coach Mal Meninga said.
"I’m confident he will develop more this season and I’m excited to see what he can bring to the Bears.
"Chris Vea’ila had an exceptional junior career with the Knights and was given his chance with the Sharks last season.
"Similar to James, I think he will continue to improve this season and be a real asset for the Bears in 2027 and beyond.
"I feel really confident we are building the foundations for this club to be successful now and into the future."
Meanwhile, the Rabbitohs have signed representative forward Adam Elliott for the 2026 season.
Elliott, 31, has played 173 NRL games since making his debut for the Bulldogs against the Sea Eagles in 2016.
A proud Wiradjuri man raised on Yuin country, Elliott has represented the Indigenous All Stars on two occasions in 2019 and 2024, as well as Country Origin in 2017.
Rabbitohs Head of Recruitment and Retention, Mark Ellison, said Elliott will add experience and depth to the Rabbitohs’ forwards ranks.
“Adam has been a consistent performer at the NRL level for a decade now and we feel he will add experience and create more depth within our forwards stocks this season,” Ellison said.
“He is renowned as a hardworking and aggressive forward, a punishing defender, and he has a reputation as a leader of men and a player that teammates want to play with.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him in red and green this season and we welcome him, his wife Millie, and his children Lenny and Gigi to the Rabbitohs family.”
The signing of Elliott follows confirmation that Origin and Test star Keaon Koloamatangi would be leaving South Sydney at the end of next season to join the Dragons.
Koloamatangi is one of the biggest signings in St George Illawarra's recent history.
A destructive and highly respected representative forward, Koloamatangi will arrive from South Sydney as a centrepiece of the club’s exciting forward pack on a five-year deal from 2027.
A veteran of 126 NRL games over six seasons for the Rabbitohs, including the 2021 grand final, his commitment is a powerful endorsement of the club’s direction and the ambition driving the rebuild of the Red V.
“I’m excited to be joining the Dragons. The club’s ambition really impressed me," Koloamatangi said.
"I’ve been watching the squad they’re building and the young forwards coming through, and I want to be part of driving that next era. I’ve loved my time at Souths, but I am looking forward to bringing my experience, my standards and everything I’ve got to the Red V.”
The Perth Bears have signed Storm stars Nick Meaney and Tyran Wishart for their inaugural season in 2027. The announcement came a day after Melbourne confirmed 2026 will be the pair's last year at the club.
Wishart has inked a five-year deal, while Meaney has signed a three-year contract through to 2029.
“I’m really excited about the challenge of being a part of a new team and creating a legacy for the Perth Bears, as well as representing the past players and fans of the Bears and Reds franchises,” Wishart said.
The pair joined the Storm in 2021 and made their club debuts in the same match in Round 1, 2022. Since then, Meaney and Wishart have notched up 94 and 82 games respectively in the purple jersey and been strong contributors in Craig Bellamy’s side.
Meaney, who joined the club after beginning his first-grade career with Newcastle and Canterbury has developed into one of the competition’s most consistent outside backs over the last four seasons.
Wishart has played an important and versatile role in the Storm side since making his debut, covering several backline positions across the past few seasons while making the utility role his own.
Storm CEO Justin Rodski explained that while the Club is disappointed to see both players depart it respects each of their decisions.
“Both Nick and Tyran have been fantastic contributors to our Club over the past four seasons,” Rodski said.
“It’s always difficult to lose people of the calibre of Nick and Tyran but we understand their decision given the opportunity in front of each of them.
“We know both players will be looking to finish their time in purple on the best possible note and will be fully focused on the task at hand between now and the end of 2026.”
Meaney and Wishart said they are both looking forward to finishing the year strongly in Melbourne.
“Coming to this club was the easiest decision I’ve ever made, but deciding to leave has been the hardest,” Meaney said.
“My wife and I are forever grateful for everything this club has given us. We’ve met some of our closest friends and have raised our two boys here, who absolutely love everyone at the club.
“Regardless of my future, I am 100% committed to helping Storm achieve our ultimate goal in 2026. It is a true honour to wear the purple jersey, and it’s going to be incredibly tough to leave.”
Wishart said: “I’ll be forever grateful to Storm for many things, but especially for giving me the opportunity to play first grade footy. The Club welcomed me in almost five years ago and I’ve learned so much in that time.
“The quality of people within the Club made it incredibly hard to make this decision and I know I’ll always look back on my time in Melbourne fondly.
“For now though I’m fully committed and focused for a big 2026, and can’t wait for the season ahead.”
Meanwhile, Bulldogs forward Josh Curran has joined the Perth Bears on a three-year deal to start in 2027.
A proud Dharug man, Curran represented the Indigenous All Stars in 2024 and is certain to be mainstay for the Bears forward pack in 2027 and beyond.
Since making his debut in 2019, the 26-year-old forward has played 106 First Grade matches with the Sydney Roosters, New Zealand Warriors and now Canterbury Bulldogs.
He is the eighth player to sign with Perth Bears, who will enter the NRL in 2027, joining Toby Sexton (Catalans), Harry Newman (Leeds), Emarly Bitungane (London Broncos), Luke Smith (London Broncos), Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui (Catalans), Liam Henry (Panthers) and Sean Russell (Eels).
From Daly Cherry-Evans' high-profile move to the Roosters and Dylan Brown heading north to Newcastle, a host of big-name recruits will be out to make a mark at new clubs in 2026.
Strike backs Brian Kelly and Tommy Talau are the latest stars on the move in 2026 with Kelly released by the Titans to join the Eels on a two-year deal and Talau signing with Sydney Roosters from Manly.
Kelly brings a wealth of experience to Parramatta, having played 190 NRL games across his career.
A talented ball-runner, the versatile back adds valuable depth and strike to the Eels’ backline.
Kelly has proudly worn the jerseys of Country NSW, the Prime Minister’s XIII, and the Indigenous All Stars.
A proud Aboriginal Bundjalung man, Kelly has also made a meaningful impact beyond football. He has been actively involved in programs that support and mentor Indigenous youth, helping to foster personal growth, cultural pride, and community empowerment.
