The National Rugby League this week welcomed a NSW Government decision to provide funding to the West Maitland Junior Rugby League for better facilities.

The club has received more than $4,000 in funding from the Member for Maitland Robyn Parker which will go towards delivering goalposts for two new fields at McKeachies Run Oval in Aberglasslyn, the club's new home ground.

The two new fields will provide up-to-date training and playing facilities for more than 250 children who are registered with the club, from the under 6s through to under 16s.

NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg said the funding was welcome news and will certainly help to strengthen Rugby League in the area.

"It is pleasing to see the NSW Government has come on board to support the grassroots of the game in regional NSW," he said.

"This provides security for players and fans and a platform for the club's further growth.

"Rugby League saw year- on-year  participation growth in 2014, with a total of 1,444,258 Rugby League experiences, which includes not only registered players but participation in clinics and programs."

This grant is in addition to the NSW Footy Facilities fund, and builds on the almost $10 million of NSW Government grants secured for local football facilities last year.
